WillaKenzie Estate Pierre Leon Pinot Noir 2009 by WillaKenzie Estate

This wine is from United States, Oregon region, Willamette Valley sub-region. Willakenzie Estate is a small, family-owned winery located in the Yamhill-Carlton district of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. They focus on quality, handcrafted wines with minimal intervention using 100% estate fruit. The soil, cool climate and topography are ideal for growing Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gamay Noir and Pinot Meunier. The vineyards at Willakenzie Estate are certified L.I.V.E (Low Input Viticulture & Enology) and Salmon-Safe and are farmed sustainably using mostly organic products such as compost and kelp. Winemaker Thibaud Mandet combines the best of new and old world techniques. WillaKenzie takes special pride in its vineyard-designated Pinot Noirs, which reflect the diversity of their vineyard locations and clonal selections. They are all 100% estate grown and aged in the winery’s underground cellars for at least a year in barrel and typically another year in bottle before release. The goal is to offer a distinctive range of Oregon Pinot Noirs that are complex, fragrant, and full-bodied, but with soft and silky tannins. Their styles range from very fruity, feminine, and elegant, to powerful wines with great intensity and structure. They will improve with bottle age for at least 8 to 10 years.. Pierre Leon is a selection of different clones, including Dijon clones, 113, 114 and 115. Cold soaked prior to fermentation in open-top fermentors for 25 days with skin contact and daily punch downs. The wine aged for 13 months in French oak (50% new).. Sweet black fruits and white flowers on the nose lead to red fruit, earth, nutmeg, star anise and kirsch flavors. The finish features well-balanced acidity and a wood-spice finish. PINOT NOIR WineRead more WillaKenzie Estate Pierre Leon Pinot Noir 2009
